Angoulême's comics festival returns under a new name, after a year's gap
After the 2026 edition was cancelled amid controversy, organisers have unveiled the first outlines of a relaunched event, now called « Angoulême bande dessinée », set for 28 to 31 January 2027.
France's best-known comics festival is coming back after skipping a year. According to Livres Hebdo, the event will be held from 28 to 31 January 2027 under a new name, « Angoulême bande dessinée », led by M:BD, a subsidiary of the Morgane group, together with the Association pour le développement de la bande dessinée à Angoulême.
Le Monde reports that the change follows repeated controversies and the cancellation of the 2026 edition, which prompted a change of name and of the team running the festival.
Livres Hebdo adds that the new organisers intend to renew the festival's governance, give a stronger place to comics authors and illustrators, and restore the event's international dimension.
Télérama notes that the relaunched festival will differ in several respects from its predecessor, though the outlet has yet to detail those changes ahead of what it calls the event's first edition under its new identity.
