Ovid's complete works join the Pléiade in a new translation
Gallimard will publish all of Ovid's known and preserved writings in its prestigious « Bibliothèque de la Pléiade » collection, in a fresh translation, on 5 November.
According to Livres Hebdo, Gallimard is bringing out the complete surviving works of the Latin poet Ovid in a single « Pléiade » volume, with a new translation. The book is due in stores on 5 November.
The « Pléiade » collection, known for its thin paper, leather bindings and scholarly apparatus, regularly revisits classical authors in updated translations. Beyond the publication date and the fact that this edition gathers the entirety of what remains of Ovid's output, Livres Hebdo's announcement gives no further detail on the translator, the introduction or the volume's specific contents.
Ovid, author of the Métamorphoses, L'Art d'aimer and the exile poems written from the shores of the Black Sea, remains one of the most read and adapted poets of antiquity, his influence running through French literature from the Middle Ages onward.
